Last night I went to a meeting of the friends of the Kingston railroad station. This is the first meeting it I have gone to of this organization, although I have been up dues paying member of it for several years.
The organization is made up of historic preservationists, train people, model railroaders, and people interested in railroads in general. In some cases all of those categories fit into one person.
The organization was founded about 40 years ago to preserve Kingston station and was a major force in its rebuilding after the station was the victim of a very bad fire in the late 1980s.
I am planning to get somewhat more involved in this organization as time goes on. One of the things they need is assistance with their model railroad display which currently shows the Kingston station area in 1948. They’re also planning to build a model railroad diorama that shows modern operations using computer controls on trains. So it should be interested to be involved in this group.
Here’s a picture of the station.
